Plot Twist was a musical production starring a robotic bass guitarist called ‘MechBass’ on stage with exceptional human instrumentalists.
The event took place at Auckland’s Q Theatre during April 2016 entertaining a crowd of over 250 people.
In a fascinating collaboration of science meets the arts, this multi genre concert was the first full length concert where a robot musician, ‘MechBass’, was the centre of attention. A successful trial and demonstration of the potential of robots in live entertainment.
Among the featured collaborative musicians were Sam Holdom drummer from indie rock band Skinny Hobos, internationally acclaimed classical guitarist Cheryl Grice Watterson, Petr Tomek; pianist and composer from the Czech Republic (and NZ cancer researcher) and esteemed local electric guitarist Sean Clancy.
Plot Twist 2 is expected to show in Auckland in 2018.
MechBass was designed and built in collaboration with Victoria University of Wellington.
