MASS partner, Krishna, was approached by a close friend to help him find a solution for a ceiling in his soon to open French cafe Le-Mirage on the corner of Vivian and Victoria Streets in Wellington. With two weeks to the opening day the project had a tight deadline.
Embodying the idea of sand dunes in a mirage a parametric latticed ceiling was scripted using processing. The script written was capable of outputting .dwg profiles that were then post processed into 2mx2m unique latticed modules.
The drawings were then CNC routered from 12mm hardwood ply to create an installation spanning 4mx8m in total. The result is a unique undulating surface pronounced by the warm glow of the suspended light bulbs from within the lattice.
